If you would like to learn to play pool or already play and would like to improve your game- I can help.  I offer instruction for beginner through intermediate levels and a discounted rate for those that prepay the six session "Pool Clinic 101" program shown below, if FULL payment is received during the third session.  I can offer either individual or group sessions with a maximum of three individuals per group.

All instruction is on a regulation (4 1/2 x 9) sized refurbished 1902 J.E. Came (Boston) pocket billiards table in the completed and heated basement of my home located about 4 miles North of town off Center Road in old Hillsborough Center. We are located on the summit of Kimball Hill.  Amenities include a four speaker stereo system with the music of your choice (sound system feed is from Direct TV Satellite service).

Watch the red, white and blue "news zone" above to see when I may be available.  Contact me by clicking on the e-mail link at the bottom of this page and I can send you a more detailed information package describing the various programs, modules and fees.

POOL CLINIC 101 Program

This program consists of six modules with each running between 2 - 3 hours and is designed primarily for newer players (T.A.P. handicap of 2 -3) through intermediate (T.A.P. handicap 4-5).  The program fee for the entire course is $225.00 per student if you pay on a per session basis. A $25.00 discount is offered for those who pre-pay $200.00 for the full course during Session #3.  A prerequisite to take this course is that you know how to hold a cue, stroke the ball and make a few shots.  More advanced players can attend any sessions they desire as long as the total number of individuals in any one session does not exceed three.  True beginners will require separate customized instruction (see below).

POOL CLINIC 101 Sessions (note that some sessions may have a short homework assignment):
#1 Introduction to Basics (covers physics, stroke, stance, etc.)  3 Hours - Fee $45.00 per student - CLICK HERE FOR AGENDA
#2 Bank Shots, Stroke, Strategy and Practice  3 Hours - Fee $45.00 per student

CUSTOMIZED INSTRUCTION

I can offer personalized instruction for anyone through my ability level (T.A.P. Handicap 7, Semi-Pro at various times).  There is no minimum age requirement (except that for alcohol consumption you must show proof of being at least 21).  For a $15.00 (1 hour minimum) assessment fee, I will design a specialized program to meet your individual needs.  Hourly rates are approximately $15.00 per hour per student, subject to change, and negotiable after I design the program.  Contact me via e-mail (below) for further information.

We do NOT presently utilize video recording equipment.  However, we DO have the ability of doing so and can create digital movies, up to over 30 minutes and burn them to either CD or DVD for an extra, negotiable fee. These can be of great value when attempting to improve stroke and stance!

Refurbished 1902 J.E. Came Billiard Table

Pool Table

The above photo shows the refurbished regulation sized billiard table in our family game room.  It is presently covered with Simonis 760 cloth  and is extremely fast! Bruinswick Centennial balls are used.  Note that the table is placed between two support columns so things are NOT 100% perfect but there is adequate room around the table so that standard sized cues will allow a full stroke even when the cue ball is up against a rail.  To the left of the trophy cabinet in the rear,  one of the four stereo speakers is visible.  The floor is covered with Grade 5 Glazed Ceramic Tile.

QUALIFICATIONS

I have been playing billiards since the late 1950s when Straight Pool (14.1) was THE game of choice in New York City where I grew up.  I attended several World Straight Pool Title events at the Hotel Commodore,  the last being when I witnessed "Promo Stills" being shot for the movie "The Hustler" (As I recall, Luther Lassiter was the one being photographed).  Before I reached 18, I attained a straight pool high run of 56 balls (4 racks) with an official high run of 67 attained on March 27, 1991.  During that period I played as a "B Level" in the local Straight Pool league.  My records indicate an overall AVERAGE high run of 28 (2 racks) per league match during 1990-1992. During several past periods, I played at semi-pro level but pretty much dropped out of tournaments after 1994.  Now I'm returning to playing again and took 9th place (out of a field of ~ 100 with Pay out through 16th Place) in the NH State Singles- Around-The-World Tournament in 2003.  I'm now playing in leagues 2 nights a week and rated as a 7 in T.A.P. and a member of their advisory board.   I have developed very sophisticated (Straight Pool) computerized handicapping systems deployed by several New Hampshire operators and remain a believer in the importance of mental attitude for ANY sport.   Areas of expertise include Straight Rail and Three Cushion billiards, 8- ball, 9- Ball, Around The World and Straight Pool (14.1). I have also played alot of Snooker and some One-Pocket but I won't offer advice in those areas!  I am NOT BCA Certified and cannot be due to their bias on Commercial and Marketing operations. However, I CAN offer QUALITY instruction at a fair price for the immediate rural area .  References are available upon request.
